2nd Annual

Disaster Awareness and Safety Day 2010

What to expect….. At the 2nd annual Disaster Awareness and Safety Day, Saturday Sept. 11,

10-4pm in the parking lot at the Rushmore Crossing Shopping Center.

EXHIBITS, DEMONSTRATIONS, GIVEAWAYS

 

 

Fire Safety Smokehouse, 10-3pm: RC Fire Dept., Kids (and parents) get a chance to walk

thru a simulated smoke filled house, led by firefighters, teaching on what to do, how best to

get out, a plan to find their family and familiarity with firefighters.

 

FREE BIKE HELMETS– “Don’t thump your melon”, 10-2pm: Kids and adults properly fitted

for a bike helmet to keep them safe.

 

Shooting Range, 10-4pm: Scheels, Game, Fish & Parks, HuntSafe, BowSafe, NASP (Nat’l

Archery in Schools Program) shooting range, kids will learn hunter safety techniques and

practice safety precautions with archery and BB guns.

 

Tree Stand Safety Demonstration, 12:30pm & 2:30pm: Scheels shows the proper way to set

up a tree stand and safely mount and dismount.

 

Bully Defense Demonstration, 11am: Karate For Kids gives kids the tools to stand up for

themselves without using any physical force and things they can do so they will not be a

target of bullying

 

Adult Self Defense Demonstration, 1pm: Karate For Kids also works with adults on simple

self-defense techniques to help keep you safe if you feel threatened.

 

Crash Truck Demonstration, 1:30pm: EAFB Fire & Emergency Services Aircraft Fire Crash

Truck Colet Jaguar is a technically advanced fire truck, designed to contain and extinguish

aircraft fires. The Jaguar can reach speeds up to 83 miles per hour and go from 0 to 50 in

less than 20 seconds, fast for a fire truck. Commonly known as a Aircraft Fire Crash Truck,

the truck is capable of hauling 1,500 gallons of water and 100 gallons of foam. See how it

works.

 

Project 8, carseat inspection, 2-4pm: SD Governor’s Child Seat Program, technicians will

inspect and check for proper installation of your child’s car seat. Replacement car seats

distributed to income eligible families.

 

K-9 Demonstration, 2pm: RC Police Dept., Demonstration includes obedience, agility,

evidence search, narcotics detection, and handler protection.
