SAFETY TRAINING OVERVIEW

The Black Hills Area Chapter provides life-saving training for community members and workplace employees in these areas:

First Aid
Adult, Infant and Child CPR
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Wilderness First Aid
• Lifeguarding, Water Safety and Learn to Swim
Babysitter’s Training
• Pet First Aid
Nurse Assistant Training
• Disaster Volunteer Training



Community CPR and First Aid:

Adult/Infant & Child CPR:  Participants learn how to perform CPR and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, infants, & children.

First Aid:  Participants learn first aid skills for treating a variety of injuries, such as burns, wounds, head, neck, and back injuries, and heat and cold emergencies.  Participants also learn to manage sudden illnesses, stroke, seizure, bites, and poisoning.

The cost is $50, which is due upon registration, includes all materials. CPR certification will be good for 1 year and First Aid certification is good for 3 years.  Classes are held at the Black Hills Area Chapter and do fill up quickly.

Week 1 – Monday – Friday                                 8:00 am 4:30 pm

Week 2 – Monday – Friday                                 8:00 am 4:30 pm

Clinicals – Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm

Graduation is held on Friday afternoon at 12:30 pm.

 

Monday and Wednesday of week one, you will tour the Golden Living Facilities.

Monday – Bella Vista and Black Hills              3:30 pm 4:30 pm

Wednesday – Care Center and Meadowbrook 3:30 pm 4:30 pm

 

BLACK HILLS AREA CHAPTER

POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND REQUIREMENTS FOR

NURSE ASSISTANT TRAINING COURSE

 

1.       Course fee is $310.00, which is due in full upon registration.  Due to the high demand for this course, the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

 

Course fee exceptions:  Participants who intend to apply for a loan from the Western South Dakota Community Action Program (CAP) are required to pay $60.00 toward the course fee and CAP will pay the balance of $250.00 after application has been completed and returned to CAP.  Participants are required to pay the $250.00 loan back to Community Action Program whether or not they complete the course.


2.  A background check will be completed by the
Golden Living Training Center on every participant that may become employed by Golden Living Center.  Participants can have NO felony convictions.

 

3.  If you have any convictions including misdemeanors or felonies, please let the Golden Living Center know so that they can check on it before you register and begin class.

 

4.  You can have NO misdemeanors/felonies including theft, abuse, assault or domestic abuse.

5. 
Golden Living Center is a drug-free workplace. Every employee of the Golden Living Center will be screened by urinalysis.

6. Participants must be at least 16years old.

7.  Participants may be asked to lift items up to 40 lbs. This is one of the Golden Living Center's requirements.

8.  Participants that are planning on being employed by the Golden Living Center will be required to do 4 hours of job shadowing.  This is not a requirement for all participants.

9. This course requires a two-week commitment to the Nurse Assistant Training Instructor and fellow classmates. YOU MUST BE IN CLASS EVERY DAY AND ON TIME.

10. You must pass the written exam and clinical evaluations to become certified as an American Red Cross Nurse Assistant.

11. Upon completion and certification you have up to 4 months to register for and take the State Licensing Examination.  This examination is conducted by the State Board of Nursing and is held twice a month at the
Golden Living Center.  The State Board of Nursing handles all registrations and fees for this examination.  The fee for this examination is $145.00.  Some employers may require their employees to obtain this additional license.

12.  The Black Hills Area Chapter of the American Red Cross does not offer any type of employment assistance once a participant completes the course.
